Why Shiatsu?
We often spend so much time getting on with life that we lose touch with who we are and how we're actually feeling. A Shiatsu session offers a quiet space to slow down, take your hands off the wheel, reconnect with yourself on a deeper level and listen to what is happening within.
What is Shiatsu?
Traditionally a Japanese form of bodywork, Shiatsu uses touch and movement to help the body find balance. It's based around the same ancient energetic system as acupuncture and adopts Japanese principals of Zen as well as modern western psychology and therapeutic values.
What Shiastu can offer
Shiatsu allows the receiver to get beneath the surface levels of their mind into a deeply relaxed state. From this space the body can start to heal itself and the mind can access deeper levels of knowing, so life issues which may have felt confusing, start to become clearer.
Shiatsu can be great for easing physical and mental pain and tension, it can settle the nervous system and bring about a greater sense of wellbeing.

Why book a session?
There are many good reasons to receive a Shiatsu session including just needing some rest and relaxation. You might come for Shiatsu because you're feeling stressed, tense, tired or overwhelmed. Perhaps you're experiencing physical discomfort, going through a difficult time, or feeling a little disconnected from yourself. Maybe you'd just like an hour in which nothing is expected of you.
What happens during a session?
Sessions last for one hour. A session usually start with some talking about what's happening for the receiver, then a short guided breathing exercise followed by some physical Shiatsu. Sessions offer a quiet hour to stop doing, listen to your body and reconnect with yourself. The cost for an hour is £60.

Preparing for a session...
What to wear?
Shiatsu is practiced through clothing with the receiver lying or sat on a futon mat on the ground, wearing something loose and comfortable like a jogging outfit. Please bring a clean pair of socks to wear as well as long trousers and a comfortable long-sleeved top.
Planning your day around your shiatsu
If possible, it's a good idea to leave yourself some time after a session rather than rushing straight into a busy day. My practice is close to the sea, so you might enjoy a quiet walk on the beach afterwards, or keep time for a cup of tea in one of the nearby cafés overlooking the coast.
